To limit toy-related squabbles between two children (ages 3 & 4) they made treasure chests: lidded plastic tubs that they personalized with stuckers. Twice a week, each girl picks out five toys for her container, and she is the only person allowed to play with those toys during that time. If both girls want the same item, the one to whome it belongs (or who picked it first) gets to claim it. The boxes have precluded squabbles and helped old playthings seem new again.
